The Schticky!

Pajama Jeans: Lounge Pants or Real Pants?

Pajama JeansOne of the newest products to hit the As Seen on TV scene is Pajama Jeans. There has been a lot of buzz about the Pajama Jeans because they are pajama bottom fabric pants that look like they are a pair of jeans. Most people would ague that it would be silly to wear these on a regular basis, which we are inclined to agree with. However, what about those days when you are feeling sick and want to go out and get your mail, or run to the grocery store? We brainstormed some ideas for when the Pajama Jeans would be most appropriate, when you need comfort, but want to look like you are wearing more than sweats.

  • Getting your mail or going out to the store on a sick/casual day
  • Getting anything done at a hospital when metal may not be allowed in pants, etc.

The Nutrisystem Diet Program not only offers online and phone support, but also a free app for your iPhone that you can use to plan your diet and stay on track! The Meal Planner also helps you track your weight and measurements, as well as offers a personal journal.

Grow Your Own Organic Tomatoes At Home Without A Garden

To live a healthy, organic and green way of life a great idea is to plant your own garden to grow veggies, herbs, etc.  With your own personal garden, not only are you able to eat fresh, organic foods straight from your yard, but you are contributing to cleaner air.  However, for many people who live in an apartment or condo they may not have the room to actually plant their own garden.

Infomerical Legend Jack LaLanne Dies at Age 96

Jack LaLanne, who may best known these days for his immensely successful infomercial product the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer, passed away at the age of 96 this past Sunday.  Jack LaLanne has been heralded as the founder of modern fitness.  Beginning in 1936 when he opened his own gym complete with a juice bar and health food shop, Jack never stopped preaching about the importance of a good diet and plenty of exercise for people of all ages.

Jack explained he grew up as an unhealthy and unhappy kid, but that his life was forever changed at 15 after sitting in on a speech about proper diet.  From then on Jack made it his mission to be as healthy and fit as possible and to help others do the same.

His life is marked by innumerous accomplishments including licensing his chain of gyms to Bally’s, launching a successful nationwide TV show and swimming from Alcatraz to Fisherman’s wharf handcuffed and shackled tugging a 1,000 lb boat at the age of 60! Just to name a few.  Jack will be remembered for his devotion to good health and his mission of helping people help themselves.  He is survived by his wife Elaine, son Jon and daughter Yvonne.

Weight Watchers New Point Plus Program

Weight Watchers Point Plus

At the end of November 2010, Weight Watchers announced their biggest change in 13 years, the Points Plus program. Points Plus is a remake of the points formula that puts a higher focus on “friendly nutrition” with the hopes that it will lead to more effective weight maintenance for the millions of Weight Watchers members and all future members.

This new plan is not just another fancy name or marketing gimmick. The essence of the Points Plus plan is to dramatically change the way the whole point formulation works, which currently assigns different amounts of points to foods based on their carb, fiber, protein and fat content.

For those of you who love Fruit, you will love the new system as it encourages the consumption of fruits due to their health benefits. On the other hand “simple carbohydrates” like pasta and potatoes will be assigned negative values due to their high calorie and insulin spiking properties.

In general protein and fiber are positively valued (much like before) while carbs and fats will be negatively values. In the hopes that people will be eating more healthy choices as opposed to simply eating less food but choosing the less-healthy options.

Not only is the new Weight Watchers Point Plus program a better formulation change but also a better approach to healthy eating and food valuation.
